Those Roadside Birches

Oil on standard canvas double framed in white wood and barn wood.

I could have called this painting, “Gold and Blue” as those were the colors that hit me as I was driving along a simple road in North Dundas. The colors were great, but I wanted to use a square canvas, the composition had to work in an unconventional shape. I have the sight lines going to the main focal point, the birches, while the cross of the background horizon is cut by the upright trees. Different for an old landscape artist used to rectangular subjects.
